You cant go wrong with a classic..Chocolate mousse holds a special place in my heart. When I was young it was always a special treat when we all got to go out as a family for dinner. Have I mentioned that I have a big family..there are 13 of us! Crazy, I know! Anyways, one of my favorite places we would frequently visit served chocolate mousse and if we were really lucky we would order a few and we would all share! It was a big deal and one of my favorite memories as a kid. Like I said, its a favorite of mine and always will be...
This is my own simple and classic version of chocolate mousse. Rich chocolate folded into whipped cream makes for one creamy, dreamy dessert. Im all about it! Make these..they are super easy to make and so worth it.
I mean...seriously, SOO CREAMY!
3 egg yolks
2 tablespoons sugar
¾ cup heavy cream
¾ cup semisweet chocolate chips
¼ cup dark chocolate morsels
1 ¼ cup heavy cream, whipped
2 tablespoons powdered sugar
In a small bowl, beat egg yolks until combined. Set aside. In a small saucepan over medium heat, heat cream and sugar until hot, about 4-4 ½ minutes, whisking constantly. Gradually stir half of the hot mixture into the egg yolks, whisking constantly; stir back into hot cream in saucepan. Cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until mixture thickens, about 3 minutes. Do not boil. Stir in chocolate chips and whisk until melted. Remove from heat, let cool slighlty and cover chocolate with plastic wrap, making sure the plastic wrap is touching/covering the chocolate. Refrigerate until chilled, about 2 hours.
Beat heavy whipping cream and powdered sugar on high until whipped. Fold or whisk chocolate mixture into whipped cream. Pipe or spoon mousse into serving cups or bowls. Top with more chopped chocolate. Enjoy!
Notes: For an extra rich chocolate flavor, reduce heavy cream to 1 cup.
